Ain't gonna lie, I found this on BoingBoing - which I am starting to hate, because it is becoming a personal blog for it's multiple editors to only post about their personal interests. (luk guyz lolcatz - omg i r autor - luk wat mah frinz do - lol i edutz tis mag :3)

Once in a while they will find something actually interesting to post, like this gem I linked above.

It never occurred to me to try something like this before, and it's a brilliant idea. The basic concept is to make a black and white image on your computer, and load it like a screensaver. Once you have your template, center the camera on the screen, pointing back at you and snap away!

On a related note... This fix only works for Safari 3 OS X users. Safari 2, and lower are still screwed.

Congratulations on accomplishing nothing, to whoever did that. Seriously, good job. I love how someone hates me enough to do that, yet doesn't realize that:

1] I'm a mod on NG, I deal with idiots 24/7
2] My cell phone number isn't exactly sensitive information, seeing as how I only answer calls in my address book.
3] I have uberbaristaivxx posted on... oh I dunno... 14 websites. Way to go, finding such sensitive info.
4] Any pictures I have taken of myself, I wouldn't hesitate to show others, cause I have nothing to be ashamed of.

It's an honor to know that someone hates you so much that they would go to such lengths in order to embarrass, humiliate, harass, and insult you - at the same time not knowing how epically they failed to do so.

Shrikey came up with what might be the fix for NG's programmers for uploading images in Safari on OS X. So this hack might not be needed much longer; if at all.

As most Mac users know, we can't use Safari to upload images to NG at the moment. If you are more than moderately familiar with Safari, you no doubt know of the hidden Debug Menu in it. While this function offers little to regular users, it is immensely useful and incredibly dangerous as well, since it can change most facets of how the browser reacts and handles content. One of the things it is useful for is tricking webservers into thinking it is a different browser, by changing it's reported user agent.

A few warnings here:

Do not unlock the debug menu, if you don't know how to fix anything you might fuck up. I am not listing any other uses for the Debug Menu either. You're on your own here too.

Ok, you were warned, so don't blame me if you fucked your shit up. I don't care, use this hack at your own risk.

I do not know at this moment if the latest update to Safari which was released last week for OS X users, fixed this issue or not, since NG isn't the only site to have experienced this problem. So it is totally plausible this hack isn't even needed.

That being said, I'll get on with the details, and how this hack should be used. If at all.

Quit Safari if it is open.
Unlock the Debug Menu in Terminal.
Open Safari.

If it was done correctly, you should have an extra menubar item called appropriately 'Debug'. In the Debug Menu, the third item down should say 'User Agent'. By default, it is set to 'Automatically Chosen'. It will revert to this every time Safari is closed, as well as everytime the window/tab you are on is closed.

The front most active window is what is affected by changing this. No others are. From there, you can select which browser you want to disguise Safari as, to the website you have open. I suggest selecting Firefox 2.0.0.2. Others might not work, or even display the site properly at all.

IN OTHER WORDS...

To post an image anywhere allowed on NG with Safari using OS X:

Open a new window in Safari.
Load the desired page.(BBS topic, Userpage News)
Change the user agent to Firefox 2.0.0.2.
Write your post, and attach an image.
Post.
Close that window/tab. (this is important - it lets safari revert back to default user agent - itself)

If you did everything right, you should end up with an easier way to post images on NG. Instead of switching web browsers at all period. Like below:
